Speaker: Dr Anne Logan, University of Kent
Women became involved in the First World War in many ways. Some took up paid employment in nursing,
manual work in war industries, or even agricultural labour. But many more
engaged in varied forms of voluntary work.
This talk, illustrated with examples mainly from south-east England,
surveys the many types of war-related work which women undertook between 1914
and 1918 and assesses its impact upon the position of women in society.
